This nice lady presented with pain in her sacroiliac joint after having previous surgery in her low back (lumbar spine). The sacroiliac (SI) joint is the joint between the sacrum (below the lumbar spine) and the ilium that is part of the hip. Sometimes people who have fusion (rods placed) in their low back develop back pain. This pain often comes from the SI joint. This patient had a great response to diagnostic injections in her joint and she elected to proceed with SI joint fusion. Prior to the procedure, she couldn’t walk more than 1/2 mile a day. Two weeks after the procedure, she was walking 3 miles a day.
